Mission
Protecting lives, inspiring hope, nurturing the wild spirit.
WolfHaven’s mission is to rescue and rehabilitate vulnerable and endangered animals, to give lifelong care to those that cannot return to the wild, and to promote public education and awareness about wildlife conservation, ethical stewardship and the protection of natural habitats.
I. The problem
Animals are losing ground.
Four pressures drive the need for a sanctuary network, and a fifth makes them harder to fix.
1
Habitat loss
Natural environments are destroyed or altered by urban development, agriculture and deforestation. Ecosystems fragment, and species cannot migrate, reproduce or sustain healthy populations.
2
Human encroachment
Expanding settlements and infrastructure disrupt habitats and put wildlife and people in conflict; the animal almost always loses.
3
The illegal wildlife trade
Poaching and trafficking target endangered species for profit, driving population declines and pushing some animals toward extinction.
4
Under-resourced shelters
Open-intake shelters in our regions run at or over capacity year-round. The injured, the orphaned, the elderly and the medically complex are the first to be lost.
5
Limited awareness
Without informed, committed community support, advocacy stalls and protective policies do not get the backing they need from communities and governments.
II. The solution
Care, research, education, advocacy.
A multifaceted approach: individualized care for every animal, research that improves it, education that builds a constituency for it, and advocacy that protects the habitats animals come from.
Rescue and rehabilitation
Comprehensive programs that give injured, orphaned or displaced animals the care and support they need to recover and thrive.
Behavioral research
Ongoing observation of animal behavior that deepens scientific understanding and informs best practice for rehabilitation and conservation.
Community education
Programs that raise awareness about wildlife preservation and foster a sense of responsibility among local residents.
Advocacy and stewardship
Dedicated advocacy for animal welfare and proactive habitat stewardship, so that wildlife and people can coexist.
III. How we are funded
Mission-driven, diversified.
WolfHaven depends on a diverse range of funding so that no single source can stop the work.
